Chamonix is set at the foot of Europe's highest mountain, the awesome Mont Blanc at 4810m and is home to a superb selection of ski chalets in Chamonix, France. Fascinating and traditional, the Chamonix ski resort has a cosmopolitan town centre which offers a good range of attractions including a wealth of shops, bars and restaurants. Argentière (and the nearby Grands Montets ski area) lies just 8 kms further up the valley from Chamonix and is linked by an efficient bus service (free with your lift pass). It is a picturesque village with a bustling atmosphere and a good selection of bars and restaurants. The off-piste is almost limitless - but be sure to take a guide unless you are really familiar with these mountains. The Vallée Blanche (Europes longest ski run but officially 'off-piste') is usually open all season. Skied with a guide, it provides 24 km of unforgettable skiing in absolutely stunning scenery.
